💡 Tips

Tips & What to Know

Essential advice for making the most of your snowshoeing experience in Banff.

1

Rent snowshoes in Banff town for $15–25 CAD per day. Several shops on Banff Avenue have rentals.

2

Carry bear spray even in winter — bears sometimes wake during warm spells. Make noise on the trail.

3

Adjustable trekking poles are very helpful for balance, especially on hillier terrain.

4

Layer up but don't overdress — snowshoeing is surprisingly cardiovascular and you'll warm up fast.

5

Stay on marked trails to protect wildlife and avoid avalanche terrain. Check Parks Canada trail reports before heading out.
