Via Ferrata Guide

Climb Mt Norquay on iron rungs and suspension bridges — Banff's most thrilling guided mountain experience.

Banff Via Ferrata at Mt Norquay

Via ferrata — Italian for "iron road" — is a guided climbing experience that lets you ascend a mountain face using iron rungs, steel cables, and suspension bridges bolted into the rock. You're clipped into a safety cable at all times, making it accessible to anyone with reasonable fitness. Mt Norquay, just 6 minutes from Banff town, offers four routes ranging from beginner-friendly to heart-pounding advanced.

🧗 Routes

Explorer Route

Beginner
⏱️ ~2.5 hours 💰 ~$79 📏 Ages 12+

The perfect introduction to via ferrata. Climb iron rungs along the cliff face, cross a suspension bridge, and enjoy panoramic views of the Bow Valley. No climbing experience needed. Moderate physical fitness required — think climbing lots of ladders.

Highlights: Suspension bridge, cliff-edge traverses, Bow Valley views, guided instruction for beginners

Ridgewalker Route

Intermediate
⏱️ ~4 hours 💰 ~$159 📏 Ages 12+

Includes everything in the Explorer Route plus a stunning ridge traverse with exposure on both sides. More challenging climbing sections and higher elevation. A significant step up in adventure and views.

Highlights: Ridge walk with dual exposure, longer climbing sections, alpine views, includes Explorer section

Skyline Route

Advanced
⏱️ ~6 hours 💰 ~$229 📏 Ages 14+

The ultimate via ferrata experience. Full-day adventure traversing the entire mountain with the most exposed sections, longest suspension bridges, and the highest viewpoints. Requires good fitness and confidence with heights.

Highlights: Full mountain traverse, most exposed sections, longest bridges, summit panoramas, full-day adventure

Summit Route

Advanced
⏱️ ~4 hours 💰 ~$189 📏 Ages 14+

A direct ascent to the summit with challenging vertical sections. Less horizontal traversing than the Skyline, but more intense climbing. Best for those who want maximum vertical with a shorter time commitment.

Highlights: Summit access, vertical climbing sections, concentrated challenge, dramatic exposure
