About This Trail

Building on the already challenging Aylmer Lookout trail, Aylmer Pass pushes further into the alpine zone above Lake Minnewanka, crossing exposed terrain and gaining over 800 metres of elevation. The pass offers a gateway to the remote backcountry north of the lake with sweeping views across the Ghost Wilderness. This is one of the most physically demanding day hikes in the Banff area and requires strong fitness and early starts.
