About This Trail

Johnston Canyon transforms into an ice wonderland in winter, with frozen waterfalls creating towering walls of blue and white ice. The catwalks and trail to the Lower Falls (1.1 km) and Upper Falls (2.7 km) remain accessible throughout winter, though ice cleats are essential. Guided ice walk tours are popular and include icecleats and interpretation. The experience is completely different from summer โ€” quieter, more dramatic, and the frozen falls are genuinely awe-inspiring.
