About This Trail

Helen Lake is one of the finest moderate day hikes on the Icefields Parkway, climbing steadily through subalpine forest before bursting into vast alpine meadows where marmots whistle and wildflowers bloom in profusion. The lake itself sits in a dramatic cirque beneath Cirque Peak, its waters reflecting the surrounding rock walls and patches of permanent snow. Mountain goats, pikas, and even grizzly bears frequent the alpine meadows, making wildlife viewing a highlight.
