About This Trail

The Sunset Lookout trail climbs aggressively from the valley floor through dense forest to the site of a former fire lookout, where stunning views unfold over the North Saskatchewan River valley and the surrounding peaks. Named for the spectacular light show that paints the western peaks in the evening, this trail rewards strong hikers with one of the most scenic viewpoints along the Icefields Parkway. The concentrated elevation gain makes it a satisfying half-day challenge.
